[SUBMITTED PHOTO]This is a wooden riding cultivator model that was discovered while packing up items in the Botetourt County Museum. It was created about 1871 to resemble the cultivator invented by H.P. Jordon of Victoria, Texas. There are two ploughs under the seat, two wheels and a long pole to hook up the horses. Cultivators like this one were used by farmers to loosen the soil and remove weeds around growing plants. The farmer could ride while steering with his feet and hold the reins to direct the speed of his team of horses. This intricate model is approximately 20 inches long and was donated by Mrs. Irene Kayser.
