The James River and Lord Botetourt swimmers honored their seniors last week at the Botetourt YMCA on “Senior Night,” and Staunton River also participated in the three-team meet.
Both teams had some outstanding performances with the post-season nearing. River will swim in the Region 1&2C meet in Christiansburg on February 10 and LB was scheduled to swim in the Blue Ridge District meet at the Franklin County YMCA on Tuesday of this week, followed by the Region 3D meet next Tuesday in Christiansburg.
Some highlights from LB included a new state cut in the 500 Free for Layne Jones. Both Medley Relay teams had personal records as well as the boys and girls 200 Free Relays. Others with personal record swims included Andres Hernandez in the 200 Free, Hunter Dillon and Isabelle Fletcher in the 50 Free, Griffin Davidson and Sidney Saunders in the 100 Fly, James Lively and Hattie Haggerty in the 100 Free, Isabelle Broyles in the 100 Back and Matthew Lee and Anna Harris in the 100 Breast.
For River, the boys 200 Medley Relay of Nathan Etzler, Cameron Rodgers, Walker Wilson and Colin Cook took second, as did the 200 Freestyle Relay with the same four. Etzler took second in the 100 Free and 100 Back, Drew Whitson was second in the girls 100 Free and 100 Breast and Alex Campbell took a third in the 100 Breast.
