The James River boys can tie Radford for the Three Rivers District lead in basketball tonight when they take on the Bobcats at Radford High School.
Radford has yet to lose a district game, while the Knights are 5-1 in the district with their only loss coming on January 13 in Springwood against the Bobcats, 56-43. Radford comes into the week at 9-2 overall, while River is 12-3 after defeating district rival Carroll County in Hillsville Monday night, 77-42.
“It was a fun game for our guys,” said River coach Ethan Humphries. “They really got after it and shared the ball well. Hoping to keep the good flow rolling throughout these next few weeks.”
Jayson Easton led River with 26 points, while Corey Easton had 15, Ryan Steger had a dozen and Patrick Clevenger had 11.
The win followed a big 74-51 win at Glenvar last Wednesday as the Knights swept the season series from another district rival. River outrebounded Glenvar 34-20 and shot 60 percent from the field while holding the Highlanders to 35 percent.
“It was nice to see our guys bounce back this second time around against Glenvar as we squeaked by the first time,” said Humphries. “Going on the road against a Top 10 team is not an easy task. We are playing some good ball right now on both ends and locking into what our keys are.”
“Another game where most of our field goals are off an assist, no coincidence that makes us click on the offensive end,” said Humphries. “We have a huge week ahead of us and still time to improve down the stretch, which is something we must do.”
Jayson Easton led the Knights with 24 points, hitting 10 of 15 field goals attempts. Corey Easton had 13 points, eight assists and five steals, Clevenger had 14 points, nine boards and seven assists and Steger had a dozen points and four assists.
After tonight’s game at Radford the Knights are back home Friday for Senior Night against Alleghany. On Saturday they have a non-district game with Parry McCluer, with tip-off at 3:30 p.m.
