Khari Ryder, Executive Director of the Botetourt County Chamber of Commerce, spoke at the January 25 meeting of the Daleville-Fincastle Lions Club. He explained that he had spent the last 10 months getting acquainted with Botetourt County. His goal has been to partner with civic organizations and businesses. He is satisfied with the progress to date but added that work still remains. He thanked the club for participating in the Tinsel Tree Trail and added that the community seemed to really enjoy the trees and decorations, prompting the Chamber to give recognition to the participants.
Rachel Nicole Edwards, a student at James River High School and author of “Giollachrist – Lighting the Candle,” spoke at the February 22 meeting. Rachel talked to the group about her inspiration for the novel and the process of getting it published. In her novel she weaves historical fact with paranormal mystery and spirituality. There is Irish culture, prejudice, acceptance and the element of a character with high-functioning autism. Her book can be purchased through Amazon as well as being found in local bookstores. The Botetourt Library has a copy of it as well. She has been accepted at Hollins University for the next academic year.
The Lions meet on the third Tuesday of each month in one of the classrooms at The Glebe; meetings start at 6 p.m. and usually end by 7 p.m. The public is invited.
