The Lord Botetourt baseball team is hoping to make up some ground this week with a busy schedule on the baseball diamond. Before getting rained out of a game at North Cross Monday the Cavaliers were scheduled to play four games in four days.
Weather permitting, it will still be three straight games for the Cavs. They were scheduled to play at William Fleming in a Blue Ridge District game on Tuesday, followed by non-district games at Patrick Henry today and at home against Brookville on Thursday.
The Cavaliers are hoping to turn things around after a tough go of it last week, losing to both William Byrd and Northside. In Vinton, LB led 2-1 after three and a half innings on a two-run homer by Garrett Green. However, the Byrdmen put a crooked three on the board in the bottom of the fourth at Walthall Field and went on to win, 5-3. In the seventh, LB scored one run and had the tying run at the plate, but Nate Prince’s lazer to left went right to the leftfielder for the final out of the game.
Nate started on the mound and pitched the first five innings, taking the loss despite allowing just one earned run. Colin Sell pitched a scoreless sixth inning for LB.
On Thursday the Cavaliers were back in Daleville but it wasn’t a happy day as visiting Northside took a 12-0 win in five innings. Jack Vargo pitched the first three innings and took the loss. Andrew Carter had trouble finding the plate with four walks and a hit batter in a third of an inning before Green finished up. LB had just three hits in the loss, two by Jackson Smith and one by Seth Richards.
“It just wasn’t our day,” said LB coach Todd Smith.
The two losses dropped Lord Botetourt to 4-4 on the season and the Cavs were hoping to pick up their first Blue Ridge District win at Fleming Tuesday.
