A “Meet and Greet the Artist” reception for David Blanchard will be held on Sunday, September 18, from 2 until 4 p.m. at 1432 Roanoke Road (Botetourt Plaza), Daleville. Light refreshments will be served.
Blanchard is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA in Painting and Printmaking and has lived in Highland County for 25 years.
In 2018, when sheep were the artist’s muse, Blanchard won Best in Show at the Taubman Sidewalk Art Show in downtown Roanoke. He chose to paint sheep not only because of their proximity but because of their universal imagery. Sheep are amusing, peaceful, needy, wandering – so relatable, he says.
Blanchard participates in numerous shows in Highland and Bath Counties, and the Cities of Richmond, Roanoke, Staunton, Harrisonburg, and Waynesboro. In addition to his “Best in Show” Award at the 2018 Taubman Sidewalk Art Show in Roanoke, he received the 2022 Taubman Sidewalk Art Show Lindor Art Merit Award, the Juror’s Award at the 2019 Radius 250 Artspace Show and an Honorable Mention at the 2017 Bath County Art Show.
The artist may be reached by email to blanchard@htcnet.org.
Patrons and fans of the artist are encouraged to attend the artist reception on Sunday, September 18 from 2 until 4 p.m.; however, the exhibit may be viewed at any time during the month when the gallery is open.
