The Lord Botetourt golfers shot a nine-hole total of 159 last week at the Hanging Rock Golf Club in a Blue Ridge District match. That was two strokes behind district-leading Franklin County, who shot 157 to retain the district lead after four rounds of play.
This week’s match was scheduled to be played at Blue Hills on Tuesday. Results were too late for publication but rain was in the forecast as of press time.
“We played much better at Hanging Rock,” said LB coach Todd Smith. “Hopefully the guys can carry that momentum into this week’s match at Blue Hills.”
Ashton Harper returned for LB and shot even par 35 to lead the Cavs. That was one stroke behind Nick Crawford of Northside, who shot a one-under 34. Also scoring for the Cavaliers were Cayden Bowles with 40 and Xavier Shelton and Tyler Meade with 42 apiece.
Next Tuesday, September 13, the Cavaliers will play at Mariners’ Landing in a BRD match hosted by Staunton River. That’s the final round of the district regular season tour. Franklin County comes into this week’s match at Blue Hills with a 29-stroke lead over LB, 1,099 to 1,128.
