Sue B. Newcomb, age 87, passed away Friday, September 16, 2022, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Sue was born August 2, 1935, in Elizabethtown, North Carolina, to the late Alston A. and Elana E. Suggs Bordeaux. She lived her early years in Elizabethtown and eventually went to Fayetteville, where she attended Elon College. Sue met her husband, Richard, at a Baptist church.

They spent a couple of years in France. Eventually, they moved to Roanoke, Virginia, where they spent a year and a half before moving to Pearisburg, Va., then Peterstown, West Virginia, before settling back in Roanoke. Sue was a lady who loved the Lord and had a strong faith in Jesus that led her life’s path. She was a member of Hollins Road Baptist Church. She worshiped the Lord daily. She was a secretary for a medical doctor in Fayetteville, N.C., and worked at Sears as an accountant and a homemaker.

Sue was a loving mother and wife. She enjoyed being with her family, especially her children and grandchildren, sewing, plants, and flowers. In addition to her parents, Sue is preceded in death by her son, Carl Channing Newcomb, three sisters, and eight brothers. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Richard Madison Newcomb; brothers, Robert C. Bordeaux and Demette Gordon Bordeaux; children: Susan Newcomb Conner, Richard Newcomb Jr., Gloria Newcomb Brown, Keith Newcomb, Chris Newcomb, and Beverly Moore; grandchildren: Theresa Tucker, Aaron Conner, Michael Conner, Alzado Brown, Kaily Martinod, Preston Newcomb, Austen Smith, Zoe Egesdale, and Sarah Moore; great-grandchildren: Charlotte Tucker, Randolph “Tre” Tucker, Brixley Brown, Ezra Martinod, and Elliot Smith.

Visitations to welcome friends and family were at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road in Daleville. Burial service followed at 1:00 p.m. at Godwin Cemetery, 152 S Church Street in Fincastle, with Pastor Mark Washington officiating.
