The Lord Botetourt volleyball team comes into this week at 8-0 in the district and 13-4 overall and with two wins last week the Cavaliers ran their winning streak to 10 in a row. LB has a busy week this week with three matches in three nights, beginning Tuesday with a home match against Franklin County.

Tonight LB is at Auburn as Cavalier coach Julie Conner takes on her sister’s team. The Cavaliers played host to Auburn in a previous game this season and the Eagles and coach Sherry Millirons, Julie’s sister, won a close one by the score of  25-20, 14-25, 12-25, 25-19 and 15-10. Sherry has never lost to Julie in a high school match but this one was the closest one yet so Conner is looking to end Sherry’s family domination on the court. Both women have won multiple state championships in their respective divisions.

On Thursday the Cavaliers will host Staunton River as they attempt to wrap up the Blue Ridge District regular season with another win. The girls improved to 8-0 in Blue Ridge District matches with two three-set wins over district opponents last week. With those wins LB clinched at least a tie for the regular season championship and a win this week over Franklin County or Staunton River will give them sole possession of the crown.

The Cavaliers opened last week with a 25-10, 27-25, 25-22 win over Northside in Daleville. Becca Huddleston led LB with 13 kills while Nora Spickard had nine to go with 18 digs. Erica Gergely had five kills and 13 digs and Skylar Morris had 32 assists, 13 digs and four kills. Emma Rice had nine kills.

“We struggled a little with our serve receive in the second set against Northside and fell behind,” said LB coach Julie Conner. “ I was proud of the team for working through that and getting the win.”

On Thursday the Cavs had little trouble with a winless William Fleming team, taking a 25-8, 25-5 and 25-2 win in Roanoke. Morris had 22 assists and 11 serving aces for LB and Olivia Cook had eighth aces. Rice had five kills and three aces while Huddleston, Spickard and Gracelynn Clark had four kills each and Savanna Johnson put down three more.
