Robert R. “Snakie” Markham, 48, of Buchanan passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022. He was born in Erie, Pa., to the late Harry, Jr. and Mildred Crouch Markham. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his grandparents, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; and nephew, Jesse Cole Markham.
He was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps serving from March ’94 to August ’98. He was a past volunteer for the Buchanan Fire Department and Maintenance Officer serving from 2003-2008. He was an avid Harley rider, owning and riding with friends on countless trips for many years. He was also an avid gun enthusiast, well versed in all guns.
Snakie owned and operated PGT Trucking Company for two years and drove for other numerous trucking companies such as Cowan Systems, Warren Transportation, Midwest Transport, and Advance Transportation; he was a trailer technician at Utility Trailer, and worked for Dudley’s Excavating Company.
He is survived by his sister, Pamala Markham and Larry Woods; brother, Harry “Bubs” Markham III; nieces, Sheyanne Markham and Emily Markham; nephews, Lane Markham, Brian (Heather) Riley, Joey Riley, and Tracy Davis; aunts, Obera Crouch, Della Crouch Woodson, Katherine Sue Hickman, Patsy Cassell, and Patricia “Pete” Monteith; uncle, J. Hugh Crouch; great-nieces, Lilly Mae Riley and Audree Rose Markham Lewis; great-nephews, Aiden, Silas, and Payson Riley; numerous cousins; special friends, Angelina Modica, Katrina Eanes, Jamie Eanes, Tracy Brizendine, Shayna Hamilton, LeAunna Hamilton, Ben and Matt Marshall.
Funeral services with Military Honors was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 23, in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery.
