There was an old cabinet that lived in a museum. For 56 years it sat without its crown. The top has been deemed too tall and not put back where it belonged. The mahogany wood was saved and stored in a barn but almost forgotten. The cabinet looked incomplete until with museum changes it was emptied and moved. At the new location it found a spot with lots of room but still looked incomplete. Then through miraculous research its crown was found. The wood was warped, dirty and broken but fit the dimensions. Along came a magician to rescue the crown. He rebuilt the broken and remade the intricate ornamentation. He polished and he crafted until the crown became beautiful again. Who was this skilled cabinetmaker? Why, it was Jacob “Jake” Cress. He is the creator of Objects d’Art, traditional and animated furniture. He lives in the Town of Fincastle. Along with his son, Mosby, he put back the crown and the cabinet is finally complete. Both the cabinet and the Botetourt History Museum thank Jake Cress!
