The postseason is just around the corner but first the Lord Botetourt girls will have an important basketball game with Patrick Henry tonight. LB will host the Patriots in a non-district game that will have region implications.
“We play a talented non-district opponent in PH on Wednesday and it is a win we need in order to stay in the second spot for the region playoffs,” said LB coach Renee Favaro.
The Blue Ridge District tournament begins Friday with the top two teams receiving byes. William Fleming has locked up the top spot and LB is second. If the Cavaliers won Tuesday at Staunton River they will get a bye Friday and open playoff play at home on Monday.
LB comes into the week at 14-6 overall and 6-3 in district play. The Cavs picked up a big win at Franklin County last Friday to move into sole possession of second in the BRD. The two teams were tied before LB beat the Eagles, 53-39.
Taylor Orange led the Cavs with 19 points while Madilyn Winterton had 16 and Ainsley Anderson added nine. Abby Kingery had a team high 10 rebounds.
Lord Botetourt played host to first place Fleming last Tuesday and gave the Colonels all they could handle before falling, 56-52. Winterton had 19 points and eight rebounds, Orange had 14 points, Gracie Huffard had nine points and 10 boards, Anderson had eight points and Kingery had another good game on the glass with 10 rebounds.
“We played very hard, but ultimately had too many turnovers,” said Favaro.
The Blue Ridge District tournament championship will be a week from today, on February 15, and Lord Botetourt High is scheduled to be the host site.
