Botetourt County citizens made their choice last Tuesday for the Republican nominees in the primary elections for November’s Board of Supervisors.

Dr. Mac Scothorn, incumbent candidate in the Valley District, received nearly 70% of the votes, defeating opponent Robert Young. In Blue Ridge, Walter Michael (58%) won the nomination over incumbent Blue Ridge District Supervisor Billy Martin.

The results from last Tuesday’s elections were not finalized until Monday afternoon. Botetourt County Director of Elections & General Registrar Traci Clark noted in a recent email that all votes that were postmarked by last Tuesday, June 20, had to be received by Friday, June 23 at noon. Clark added that there were not enough ballots still out last week that would have changed the outcome of the primaries.

Currently, Scothorn will run unopposed for re-election in the Valley District. Rick Painter has submitted his paperwork as an independent candidate to run against Michael for the Blue Ridge District. Election Day is November 7. For more information about polling places and other election particulars, visit https://www.botetourtva.gov/405/Election-Information.
