James River and Lord Botetourt students were recognized for their athletic accomplishments last spring during the Botetourt School Board meeting last Thursday. Emma Francis (JRHS) – Girls Shot Put State Champion, Austyn Moran (JRHS) – First Team All-State Softball, Elly Lackey (JRHS) – First Team All-State Softball, Jenna Pugh (JRHS) – First Team All-State Softball, Heath Andrews (JRHS) – First Team All-State Baseball, and Kendal Howard (LBHS) – Boys Discus State Champion.
James River Athletic Director Chase Davidson introduced Francis, Moran, Lackey, and Andrews for their recognitions. Davidson noted Francis’ Class 2 state championship in the shot put,
Moran’s, Lackey’s, and Pugh’s performances in the 2023 softball state championship tournament, and Andrews’ 1st team All-State recognition and his preparations for playing baseball at N.C. State this upcoming season. Lord Botetourt track coach Paul Craft introduced Howard for recognition of his state title win with a 164-foot toss during the championships. He also holds the school record in discus (172 feet).
