The Lord Botetourt girls have high hopes for the coming season as they return everyone from last year’s team and add a few promising newcomers.

The Cavaliers were 19-9 last season and made it to the state semifinals before their season came to an end. This year, coach Renee Favaro is looking for two more wins at the end of the season.

“We have big goals for this season,” she said. “ We want to win championships and make a deep run in the state tournament this year.”

The Cavs return last year’s Blue Ridge District Player of the Year in Madily Winterton. Taylor Orange and Ainsley Anderson are BRD first team returners and 6’3” Gracie Huffard also returns and was a second-team selection. Junior Abby Kingery will provide LB with a spark on defense with her hustle and rebounding.

The Cavs also welcome back Grayson Alfano from an ACL injury. She missed last season and will fill a knockdown shooter role.  Maddie Caron also joins LB as a new student to give the Cavaliers size and depth inside.

LB was scheduled to open at Patrick Henry on Tuesday, followed by a trip to Jefferson Forest on Thursday. The home opener is Friday against Cave Spring.

“Our region is going to be pretty tough, but we have put together a strong non-district schedule to help plan for that,” said Favaro.  “We have a challenging early schedule, but we do think it will pay off come late February and March.”
