The Lord Botetourt girls will put their unbeaten record on the line tonight when they host Patrick Henry in basketball. The Cavaliers are 5-0 after winning two more games last week.

The girls took a 65-38 win at Class 4 Blacksburg behind Madilyn Winterton, who scored 18 points in the first half. Taylor Orange had 11 in the first half and 16 overall as the two combined for all but one of LB’s first half field goals. Ainsley Anderson hit three three-pointers for nine points and all 11 girls got in the game.

“It was a good team win and this group is a lot of fun,” said coach Renee Favaro. “They play well together and they cheer each other on.  It is evident they are connected and root for one another.”

On Saturday the girls played host to Abingdon and won 65-59. The post players led the way as Maddie Caron put up 16 points in the paint, had seven rebounds and added five assists. and Gracie Huffard also recorded 16 points.

“They worked well in tandem and we did a good job as a team seeing that was what Abingdon was giving us,” said Favaro. “The guards kept the post fed and they went to work.”

Orange also had 14 points and Anderson dished out seven assists.

“This was a preview of the competition our region has,” said Favaro. “We have a really strong region in 3D with teams like Abingdon, Carroll, Magna Vista and now Pulaski.  Christiansburg has also improved a lot. There are quite a few teams who could make some noise come that time and we are working to try to get ourselves prepared for the playoffs.”
