The Lord Botetourt girls played host to Blacksburg in a non-district girls basketball game on Monday and came away with a 68-43 win. With the victory LB improved to 14-2 overall.

“We did not shoot the ball well from three at all, but made up for it with our hustle,” said LB coach Renee Favaro. “We scored 15 points off turnovers and 15 points off offensive rebounds to help pick up the slack of some cold outside shooting. We are very fortunate that when one thing is not working for us, we have so much talent and depth that we can look for other ways to score.  I think we were able to do that even though we did not play particularly well.”

Madilyn Winterton led the way with 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Maddie Caron stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, nine rebounds and seven steals. Taylor Orange added 14 points and Gracie Huffard had 11.

“Abby Kingery brought a great spark for us to add seven points, all in the first half, and three assists,” said Favaro.

Last Thursday the girls remained unbeaten after one trip through their Blue Ridge District schedule as they had little trouble downing visiting Franklin County, 57-22. Botetourt outscored the Eagles 21-0 in the third quarter to blow the game wide open after a slow start.

Orange led the Cavs with 16 points, Grayson Alfano had 13 and Caron had seven points and seven rebounds. LB had 18 assists on 20 made field goals.

Botetourt was scheduled to begin the second half of the BRD schedule on Tuesday at home against Staunton River. On Friday the girls are at William Byrd and next Tuesday they host William Fleming in a big district game. The Colonels have lost just one district game, the first time around against LB, and are 11-4 coming into the week.
