Attic Productions will open a limited showing of “Roads to Home” by Horton Foote this weekend.
This stage play, directed by Linsee Lewis, will be presented at Attic’s D. Geraldine Lawson Performing Arts Center, 7490 Roanoke Road, Fincastle, one weekend only, February 9, 10 and 11. The Friday evening show begins at 7:30, and Saturday and Sunday matinees begin at 2:30.
These three short plays are both tragic and comedic. Each act follows one of the central characters from the 1920s small town of Harrison in central Texas. The plays begin with “A Nightingale,” which introduces Mabel, her neighbor and friend Vonnie, and Annie, a young but troubled woman. Mabel and Vonnie return in “The Dearest of Friends,” set several months later, and Vonnie is upset with her husband Eddie, whom she suspects is having an affair. “Spring Dance” takes place four years later, and Annie reappears with several new characters. As the plays progress, it is revealed that home is an ideal, and the road to it is a precious, elusive memory.
Horton Foote also wrote “The Trip to Bountiful” as well as the screenplay for the film version of “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
Adult tickets are $20, students 18 and under and groups of 10 or more are $15 when paid in cash or by check at the box office. A $2 convenience fee per ticket will be added if paying with a card.
