The Lord Botetourt girls finished 10th among 26 teams in the Class 3 state swim meet at the Swim RVA facility in Richmond last week. The LB boys were 22nd among 32 teams as Western Albemarle swept the team championships.
Botetourt’s best finish was a second place in the girls 100-yard backstroke by senior Layne Jones. She finished with a time of 56.27 seconds after making the finals with a 57.39 in the preliminaries.
Jones also swam on the seventh place 400 free relay team with Isabella Sanchez, Julia Misicko and Hannah Mizuba. They had a time of 3:52.27.
Other notable swims for the girls included a seventh in the 100 free and a ninth in the 50 free by junior Hannah Mizuba. Julia Misicko was 11th in the 100 butterfly and 19th in the 500 free while Oivia Nicely was 19th in the 100 free.
For the boys, freshman Max Mizuba was sixth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.95. He also took ninth place in the 200 IM as Max scored all 22 points for the LB boys.
Freshman Riley Persinger scored in two events at the state Class 1&2 swim meet at the Swim RVA pool in Richmond last week. The Bruton High girls and Glenvar boys won state team championships at the meet.
Persinger swam to an eighth place finish in the 100 freestyle in a time of 1:04.67, earning 11 points for James River. She was ninth in the 100 backstroke for nine more points, finishing in 1:08.87. The girls finished 16th as a team.
Also scoring for the River girls were freshman Sarah Lorman with a 10th place finish in the 100 butterfly and senior Drew Whitson, who was 11th in the 100 freestyle. The girls scored 33 total points.
The boys scored 12 total points from two swimmers. Senior Walker Wilson was 11th in the 100 freestyle and freshman Austin Myers was 12th in the 100 backstroke.
