Reassessment hard on senior citizens
Regarding reassessment of real estate– first, I would like for my senior friends to have the number for the Commissioner of Revenue to apply for Elderly and Disabled Tax Relief. It is 540-928-2050. I doubt that many will qualify but you can try, as I am sure it hasn’t been updated in years. Applications have to be received by May 1 of the tax year.
I am 86 years old, a widow and have lived in Botetourt for 73 years. My present home is 45 years old. I worked in health care and retired at 70. I have my own well and septic system. I pay weekly for garbage and recycling. I now have to have hired labor to maintain the outside of my home and property. My property evaluation significantly increased by $105,000. The county is increasingly making it harder on their senior citizens to live independently.
