Solomon’s Mission in Buchanan held a Senior Valentine’s Lunch on February. One hundred fourteen senior citizens from Botetourt County came to share Valentine’s Day, along with 18 volunteers.
The guest speakers were Barbara Hill with a poem and Brad Turner who spoke about love and forgiveness. The Botetourt Sheriff’s Office Senior Connect also joined in. Keith Wood played the piano providing wonderful music. Door prizes were provided by the Botetourt Resource Center, Solomon’s Mission, and some local community donors. The meal was provided by four local churches and a variety of individual volunteers. The highlights of the day included the fun, the laughter, the community fellowship, with the whole group of voices joining in to sing “Jesus Loves Me.”
Solomon’s Mission is a non-profit charity in Buchanan that collects and redistributes clothes and other goods as well as providing a location for many local community events and services. It is located at 592 Lowe Street. The Thrift Store is open Thursdays, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Fridays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-1p.m.
