The home-standing Blackburg Bruins scored two late goals to defeat Lord Botetourt in the season opening girls soccer game Monday.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half. The Bruins then broke the ice late in the second half and scored an insurance goal to seal the deal.
“Maisy Cook made several great saves to keep us in the game,” said LB coach Giuseppe D’Arpa.
The girls won’t play again until Monday, March 18, when they travel to Salem. The LB boys were scheduled to open at home against Glenvar on Tuesday, but results were too late for publication. The boys will host Salem on Friday.
