Botetourt students compete in division and regional spelling bees

Savannah Collelouri of Colonial Elementary School won this year’s BCPS Division Spelling Bee with Finn Wilkinson as the division’s runner-up. The contest was held on February 19 at Lord Botetourt High School.

Last month students from Botetourt County Public Schools (BCPS) competed in the BCPS Division Spelling Bee at Lord Botetourt High School. Savannah Collelouri of Colonial Elementary School was the division winner at the February 19 contest. Her winning word: “boba.” The division runner-up was Finn Wilkinson from Read Mountain Middle School.

School Champions and Alternates are as follows:

SCHOOL CHAMPIONS:  Sadie May (Breckinridge Elementary), Jovie Franklin (Buchanan Elementary), Holly Weddle (Central Academy Middle School), Leona Wilhoit (Cloverdale Elementary), Savannah Collelouri (Colonial Elementary), Adelyn Tribble (Eagle Rock Elementary), Kyra Lake (Greenfield Elementary), Finn Wilkinson (Read Mountain Middle School), and Keylee Wittensoldner (Troutville Elementary).

ALTERNATES:  Mariah Downs (Troutville Elementary), Andrew Collins (Cloverdale Elementary), Nate Wilson (Colonial Elementary), Harper Beckner (Greenfield Elementary), Baylee Hylton (Eagle Rock Elementary), Rosalie Stull (Buchanan Elementary), Jaden Herrig (Breckinridge Elementary), Noah Horne (Central Academy Middle School), and Marie Olivier (Read Mountain Middle School).

The Regional Bee was held at Radford University on March 16, and won by Audrey Lee, a seventh grader at Andrew Lewis Middle School in Salem, who will go up against the nation’s top spellers in May’s Scripps National Spelling Bee.
