Daughters of the American Revolution from around the Commonwealth gathered in Williamsburg in late March for their annual State Conference. Members from 125 chapters in Virginia gathered to share ideas, attend workshops, conduct business and celebrate their heritage.

The Botetourt County Chapter received an award for Exceptional Press Coverage Highlighting Patriot Ancestors at the awards luncheon on Saturday, March 23. State Regent Laurie Parker Nesbitt and State Historian Susan Manley Walls presented the award to Botetourt County Regent Elizabeth McKinley Holt. The chapter earned this award for the “Our Patriot Ancestors” articles which appear monthly in The Fincastle Herald. The articles that have appeared in the newspaper have highlighted the service and contributions for 12 patriots who are the ancestors of 19 members.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a women’s service organization whose members can trace their lineage to an individual who contributed to securing American independence during the Revolutionary War. DAR chapters participate in projects to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism.
