Northside proved to be too strong for the James River soccer team on Monday as the visiting Vikings took a 9-1 win in Springwood.
“The score shows a bad loss, but I have to say I was pleased and impressed with my guys going out and battling a big school,” said River coach Jared Whiting. “I saw some of the best soccer out of these guys yet this year, a big jump since the last game. Nobody likes a loss, but myself and the guys alike walked from the field feeling good about the improvement we have made and where our game is headed for the season. Step by step, little by little, we are getting there.”
Josiah Clark scored River’s goal with an assist from Paul Theimer. Corbin Wilhelm had 15 saves as the Vikings peppered the River goal.
The Knights also played Carroll County last week and dropped a 3-0 game in Springwood.
“It sure was a cold and windy night for soccer,” said Whiting. “Finishing is our main point of concentration now and hopefully we can shore that up this week.”
The Knights are scheduled to host Radford Thursday, play at Riverheads Friday and then go to Patrick County Monday.
