Botetourt County, Roanoke County, and the Town of Vinton are collaborating on a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan through the Federal Highway Administration’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program with the goal of preventing deaths and serious injuries for all roadway users including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, commercial vehicle operators, transit riders and micromobility users.
Community meetings are being held in each locality for citizens to comment on the high crash areas identified. Paper surveys will be available at the meeting and digital versions will be available online. A second round of community meetings will be held later in 2024 that will focus on proposed projects in each locality to reduce deaths and serious injuries on the roadways.
Botetourt County meeting dates and locations:
Botetourt County (North): Monday, May 6, 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Eagle Rock Elementary School Cafeteria (145 Eagles Nest Dr., Eagle Rock)
Botetourt County (South): Tuesday, May 7, 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Botetourt County Administration Center at Greenfield (57 S. Center Dr., Daleville)
The county asks the community to participate in a brief survey that is open to the public from now until May 21. The survey can be found on the Botetourt County website at www.botetourtva.gov/874/Safe-Streets-and-Roads-For-All-SS4A.
