The James River baseball team will host Glenvar tonight in a long-standing rivalry. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Three Rivers District game in Springwood.

The Knights are coming off a 10-3 loss to Alleghany on the road last Friday. The Cougars broke open a close game with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. River trailed just 4-3 to that point.

“Alleghany is a tough opponent, probably a top two team in our district this year and we fought the whole way,” said River coach Chance Henry.

The Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to some good swings and playing some small ball. Alleghany answered with two runs in the bottom of the first but River took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth. The Cougars then scored two in the bottom of the inning and put it away with the fifth inning rally.

Kody Park pitched into the fourth for the Knights before he was relieved by Logan Joyce, who gave up five runs of which just one was earned. Logan didn’t allow a hit but walked four batters.

“Kody Park did great to keep us in the game, but again one bad inning kept us from being able to mount a comeback,” said Henry.

River had four hits in the game. Joyce, Maddox Woodyard and Maddox Moore drove in runs.

The Knights were scheduled to host Carroll County on Tuesday. Glenvar is here tonight and River is then off until next Tuesday, May 7, when Radford comes to Springwood.
