Helen M. Morris, 91, of Fincastle passed away on June 16, 2024.

A native of Virginia, she was the wife of the late Kermit “Abe” Morris, married in July of 1954, and daughter of John Peter McGue and Sadie Rose Proffit McGue, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her brother, James McGue.

Helen was a Registered Nurse with the Botetourt County Health Department for many years. She did blood pressure and sugar readings for the LOA.

Helen loved Fincastle, and served on Fincastle Town Council from 1988 until 2000, as mayor from 1996 until 1998, and clerk from 1994 until 1996. She volunteered in the Fincastle parade, Bank of Fincastle Fall Run, and sold poppies on Veterans Day. Helen was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Friends of the Library, Red Cross Blood Drive, and Big Spring Garden Club. She was the oldest member of Fincastle Baptist Church.

Helen was famous for her pound cakes that she made for all fundraisers and neighbors. She loved gardening and arts and crafts. If you walked by her home on Main Street, you would most likely find her out in the yard or garden, as she loved being outdoors. She was helpful to everyone and would always ask how she could help you or do for you. Helen loved her honorary grandchildren and attended many grandparents’ days, plays, band concerts, and ball games for her honorary grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Kelly Morris and Kerry Morris; brother, Peter McGue; and sisters, Geraldine M. Oats and Sharon Waldron.

The family received friends at Rader Funeral Home in Daleville on Thursday, June 20, 2024 from 6 until 8 p.m. A private family graveside service was held in Pleasant Dale Memorial Park.

Memorial donations may be made to Friends of the Fincastle Library, P.O. Box 129, Fincastle, 24090 or Town of Fincastle Fireworks, P.O. Box 250, Fincastle, 24090.
