High School football is officially here. Both James River and Lord Botetourt teams opened preseason camp last week under hot temperatures in Botetourt County.

River opened practice last Thursday at 4 p.m. and went until dark. The Knights will cut practice to 4-7 p.m. today, then go 4-6:30 p.m. for the rest of the season.

The Knights have two scrimmages scheduled before their regular season opener at Buffalo Gap on August 30. The Knights will scrimmage at Nelson County on Friday, August 16, then host Rockbridge for a scrimmage in Springwood on August 23. Both are for jayvee and varsity.

Lord Botetourt opened practice bright and early last Saturday, August 3, at 7 a.m. This week, with school opening, the Cavaliers will go from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

LB will scrimmage Dobyns Bennett High of Tennessee next Thursday, August 15, at Emory & Henry. Then, on Thursday, August 22, the Cavaliers will scrimmage at Jefferson Forest. Lord Botetourt opens the season on August 30 at home against E.C. Glass.
