A thank you from retiring JRHS statistician
I would like to thank The Fincastle Herald and Brian Hoffman for the unexpected article last week on my retirement from keeping James River football statistics. That job, and all those years, have been very special to me.
I would also like to thank, or recognize, all those individuals who have been on the football stat crew along the way, especially Randy Sink, Gary Deacon, and the late Tom McCulloch, all of whom I worked with for decades. We made a lot of memorable road trips and dodged a lot of deer. The long-term dedication of these guys is noteworthy. They all made this activity a priority and we looked forward to Friday nights.
The last few years, Zach Hammons worked with me, and I am thankful to him for his work and dedication. We also had a lot of deep conversations and did our part to save the world.
To those of you who have contacted me in various ways since the article, thank you.
Lastly, as someone who is (grudgingly) aging out of the profession, I would like to encourage anyone reading this letter to consider volunteering. Whether it is sports, church projects, fire fighting, or other ventures, there is never enough help. You can make a difference.
God bless!
