The Lord Botetourt cross country team competed in the “Clash with the Titans” race at Hidden Valley High last Saturday and had a solid day on the Roanoke County trails.
“We ran this race as a workout, and the team crushed it,” said coach Elizabeth Edmonds. “All our runners beat their times from last year, even with us not racing.”
Ethan Thorne took second place with a time of 16:41. Next were Preston Vaughn, Joel Butler, and John Moughrabi, all within 24 seconds of each other, and rounding out the varsity were Garret and Nathan Moser, also working together and crossing the finish line within 15 seconds of each other.
The boys team placed sixth out of 15 teams. Blacksburg was the team winner.
The LB varsity girls were led by Anne Thorne, coming in third by five milliseconds with a time of 20:08.72 to 20.08.67 for second place Abigail Rhudy of Tazewell. Thorne was followed by Madeleine Gantzhorn, Ember Wiley, Madeline Moore and Riley Sink. Blacksburg also won the girls varsity race and LB was eighth.
“As a whole, our entire team ran faster times than last year, which gives us a lot of confidence heading into the race season,” said Edmonds.
The team is scheduled to run in a race hosted by Alleghany this Saturday at the Jackson River Sports Complex.
