Prior to the kickoff of Saturday’s football game between Rutgers and Virginia Tech, Sam Finley was one of three Virginia National Guardsmen who piloted a Blackhawk helicopter in the flyover.
Finley is a 2013 Lord Botetourt High School graduate and football player and active first lieutenant in the Virginia National Guard. According a post from Lord Botetourt’s social media, Finley joined the National Guard prior to his last semester at Lord Botetourt and next January will be his 12th year in service. His younger sister, Heather Finley, a 2018 Lord Botetourt graduate, is a drill sergeant with the Army Reserve.
