The Lord Botetourt volleyball team remained undefeated with two dominating wins to open Blue Ridge District play last week. The Cavaliers beat Staunton River and William Byrd, both in three sets.
The Cavs opened their district schedule in Moneta and took a 25-7, 25-11 and 25-13 win over the host Eagles of Staunton River High. Becca Huddleston led the rout with 10 kills while Erica Gergely had nine. Skylar Morris had 23 assists.
On Thursday the Cavaliers were back home to host William Byrd and they won in three sets again, not allowing the Terriers double figure points in the first two. LB won 25-7, 25-9 and 25-22.
Huddleston had 10 kills and an ace in this one while Alicia Holmes had eight kills and two blocks. Morris had 25 assists and half a dozen digs.
“Our girls played a very fast offense to keep William Byrd on their heels,” said coach Samantha Wilkins. “We were able to keep them from running a strong offense against us with our speed. I am very proud of how the team has been playing and how hard they are working in practice.”
The two wins lifted LB to 10-0 on the season. They were scheduled to play at William Fleming on Tuesday with a trip to Northside Thursday. Next Tuesday, October 8, Franklin County comes here.
