Mary Alice Gibson eagerly entered into the presence of her loved Savior on September 29, 2024.
Mary Alice has been longing to go to that home prepared for her and begin the glorious family reunion with her husband of 69 years, Elmer, and her son, Peery. Mary Alice was also predeceased by her brothers, Rodney and Charlton, and her sister, Ardean, and their parents, Elbert and Eula All. Oh, what a reunion!
Throughout her working years, in addition to being a devoted wife and mom, she worked as a PBX operator at Johnson Carper and later the then Norfolk & Western Railway. What she was most known for was her servant’s heart. She was always caring for someone in need – preparing food, doctor appointments, gathering groceries for the home-bound, helping in any way that she could. She always had a pound cake or macaroni and cheese ready! She loved babies and children and was a surrogate mom to many in her younger years. They would walk into her home and go straight to the toy drawer.
After retirement, Mary Alice and “Fudd” enjoyed traveling but they especially enjoyed it when they could travel with their friends. Mary Alice always knew how to put their timeshare to good use! They also loved to spend time in Nags Head at a home they purchased many years ago that now their great-grandchildren are privileged to enjoy.
Surviving Mary Alice ae Sharon Gibson, her daughter-in-law; grandchildren, Jonathan Peery, Allison (Chad) Hasson; and her great-grandchildren, Chandler, Camden and Crew. Mary Alice was blessed with dear friends and special family members that were faithful, compassionate and kind until the Lord ushered her home.
Mary Alice, until the last few years of her life, was a faithful member of Shenandoah Baptist Church and she was also a 30-year volunteer to the Blue Ridge Center for Women. So, the family requests that any memorials be made to the Camp Eagle Ministry of Shenandoah Baptist Church (6520 Williamson Rd., Roanoke, 24019) or to the Blue Ridge Women’s Center (5034 Williamson Rd., Roanoke,).
There was a private family burial. Knowing Mary Alice’s servant heart, it would bring her great joy if you would take this time and go visit with a shut-in family or friend and give them the encouragement that only Jesus can offer. Arrangements were by Simpson Funeral Home, 540-366-0707.
