The course at Greenfield Recreation Park was the site of the Blue Ridge Invitational cross country meet, hosted by Lord Botetourt High School last Saturday. The North Cross boys and Patrick Henry girls won team titles.
“This was our first time running our newly changed course,” said LB coach Elizabeth Edmonds. “We were so excited to get out on the course and see what the changes would offer the runners. Of course, with the storm that just rolled through, there was a lot of work that had to go into getting it finalized but we got it as close to ready as we could. It was muddy and messy, but ended up to be a perfect race day.”
Eric Duncan of LB led the team and the meet with a winning time of 16:29 in the boys’ race. He was followed by freshman Nathan Mose and sophomore Joel Butler as the boys took third out of nine teams.
Madeleine Gantzhorn led the girls’ team with a 14th place finish in a time of 26:07. She was followed by sophomore Addison Purser and sophomore Ember Wiley. The girls finished fourth out of seven teams.
Botetourt’s Jacob Malue finished first in the junior varsity race with a time of 22:02.
This Saturday the Cavaliers will race in the Northside Invitational at Northside High School. Middle School 3K races will be at 9 a.m. for girls and 9:30 a.m. for boys. The girls’ 5K varsity race is scheduled for 10 a.m. followed by the boys’ varsity 5K at 10:45 a.m. and a combined boys-girls jayvee 5K at 11:30 a.m.
James River was scheduled to run in the East Mont Invitational last week but that meet was washed out by mid-week storms.
