The James River volleyball team swept two Three Rivers District rivals on back-to-back nights last week. The Knights beat Glenvar and Floyd, both in three sets.
Last Wednesday in Springwood the Knights dominated arch-rival Glenvar, holding the Highlanders to single digits in two of the three sets. River won the first set, 25-13, then breezed home with 25-6 and 25-8 wins to put the visitors away.
“This was an exceptionally good night for us,” said coach Linsey Firebaugh. “We had 20 aces as a team, which allowed us to be able to run our offense and stay comfortable all night.”
Ayden Jennings led the team with six aces. Caitlin Canada had 10 kills and Konner Myers and Ava Thacker had 15 digs each.
A night later at Floyd County, River won again, 25-10 25-14 and 25-11. River was hot on the serving line again with 14 aces.
“We had a good night serving, which kept them out of system,” said Firebaugh. “We also serve received well which allowed us to run our offense.”
Canada had 13 kills to lead the offense.
The Knights have a big test this week with two home matches. They host Alleghany on Tuesday and Carroll County on Thursday. Alleghany comes into the week at 15-3, Carroll County is 8-7 and James River is 11-6 after last week’s wins.
