The Lord Botetourt football team will be back on the gridiron this Friday after having a bye last week. The Cavaliers will return with their Blue Ridge District opener against Staunton River in Moneta.
The Golden Eagles are 3-2 and have already equaled last year’s win total, when they finished 3-8. They had a signature win over Magna Vista to open the season and they’ve also beaten Liberty and Tunstall while losing to Jefferson Forest and G.W. Danville, 17-13 in Danville September 26. The Eagles also had a bye last week, so that won’t be an advantage to either team.
“They have some tough kids and they play hard,” said LB coach Jamie Harless. “Coach (Shaun) Leonard does a good job. He’s a fine fellow.”
Lord Botetourt comes in at 4-1 and riding a four-game winning streak. The Cavaliers have outscored the opposition 256-34 in those games while Staunton River has only allowed 47 points in five games, including two shutout wins.
