The James River volleyball team will look to up their Three Rivers District record tonight when they play host to Radford in a big volleyball match. The Knights come in with a 12-7 overall record while the Bobcats are 7-7 but beat River the first time around in Radford.
River split two Three Rivers matches last week. They hosted district leader Alleghany on Tuesday and lost in four close sets, 25-23, 20-25, 25-23 and 25-22. On the night Alleghany scored 95 points and River had 93.
“It was a great night of volleyball,” said River coach Linsey Firebaugh. “Both teams played well, but Alleghany came out on top. We played very solid defense and hit well.”
Caitlin Canada had 15 kills for the Knights while Ava Thacker had 11 kills and 30 digs. Konner Myers had 28 digs and Brea Anduiza handed out 34 assists.
On Thursday the Knights hosted Carroll County and won in three, 25-14, 25-17 and 25-14. Canada had 10 kills and Thacker had nine.
“We played solid,” said Firebaugh. “We served aggressively and kept our errors low. We were able to keep them out of system so they could not run their offense. Overall it was a good night for us.”
After tonight’s home match with Radford the girls will make up a previously postponed match with Patrick County on Friday. That will also be in Springwood.
