Blacksburg will be the site of the annual Metro Cross Country Meet today and Lord Botetourt and James River are both entered. River has not had a meet since hosting a meet at Gracely Hill on October 12 but LB ran in the Virginia Showcase meet last Saturday at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville.
“It was a huge success,” said LB coach Elizabeth Edmonds. “The level of competition at Showcase is unlike any other race. The course is extremely flat and fast.”
Botetourt’s Eric Duncan ran in the “Showcase Race,” which is allotted to the fastest teams entered into the race and sub 16 individuals. Eric ran a new personal record of 15:12 and finished in 19th place, which earned him a medal.
“It was incredible getting to watch Eric and the other boys in his race run such fast times,” said Edmonds. “Eric held right at the top and passed consistently through each kilometer of the race.”
The rest of the Cavaliers ran in the Small School Races.
“The entire team ran some incredible times,” said Edmonds. “We came out of the race with nine new personal records.”
The boys team was led by freshman Nathan Moser with a time of 18:46, and Archer Lee at 18:56. Close behind was senior Garrett Sutton at 19:28 and sophomore Lucas Carswell at 19:46. Rounding out the top five boys was junior Graham Dietrich with a time of 20:02. The boys team finished 26th out of 36 teams.
The girls team consisted of Ember Wiley, running a 24:39, and Madeleine Moore, 26:33. Both ran personal record times.”
After today’s Metro the Cavaliers will host the Blue Ridge District meet next Wednesday, October 30, at the Greenfield Recreation Park with the girls taking off at 4:30 p.m. and the boys at 5 o’clock. James River will run in the Three Rivers District meet in Martinsville next Tuesday, October 29.
