The Blue Ridge District volleyball championship will be held on Thursday of this week and there’s a good chance Lord Botetourt will be the host team. The championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the site of the highest remaining seed.
Botetourt comes into the tournament at 19-1 overall and 10-0 in district play. The Cavaliers and second place Franklin County had a first round bye on Monday. Third seeded William Byrd defeated sixth seeded William Fleming and fourth seeded Northside beat fifth seeded Staunton River. Both matches went three sets.
On Tuesday LB was scheduled to host Northside and William Byrd was at Franklin County. The two winners will play Thursday, and if LB defeated Northside then the championship will be in Daleville.
The Cavaliers ended the regular season with two wins last week, beginning with a three set win over Northside, 25-6, 25-9 and 25-8. Becca Huddleston had eight blocks and eight aces and Skylar Morris had 19 assists.
On Thursday of last week the girls swept the regular season series with Franklin County, 25-17, 25-23 and 25-17. Huddleston had 14 kills and Erica Gergely had 10. Bria Harvey had 23 digs and Gracelynn Clark had five blocks for LB.
The Region 3D tournament begins next Tuesday, November 5, and LB is the third seed behind Hidden Valley and Christiansburg. The Cavs will open with a home match against Magna Vista. Semifinals are November 7 and the region championship is November 12, and all games will be played at the higher seed.
