James Lee “Jim” Aleshire, 82, of Troutville died Wednesday, July 3, 2019.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Charlotte Black Aleshire; first wife, Patricia Schwenke Aleshire; daughter, Sheri Wilson; and a sister, Marian Collins.
Jim was a Bronze Eagle Scout with Wood Badge Award, and a member of the Virginia State Orchestra (Award Band), 1954. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech and while there was a member of the Virginia Tech Regimental Band. He also played trumpet in the 80th Division Army Band and in the National Guard Band. He was a member of the Botetourt County Chorus, the Association of Manufacturing Engineers and had been a member of First Baptist Church, Roanoke since 1953. He retired as Senior General Foreman for the Norfolk Southern Railway.
Surviving are his wife, Sue Luck Aleshire; children, Michael R. (Patricia) Aleshire, Katherine Aleshire (Mark) Alexander, and Marcus Lee Aleshire; grandchildren, D.J., Jonathan, Michael, Haley, Amy, and Kaelin; great-grandchildren, Alexia and Dakota.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
A memorial service was conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 6, at Simpson Funeral Home, Roanoke. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. Interment was private.
