The Botetourt County Historical Society & Museum has a new director.
Lynsey C. Allie recently took over as executive director.
Allie’s a Blue Ridge native and Lord Botetourt graduate. She graduated from Roanoke College with a history degree and later received her Master’s in Archival Studies from Clayton State University.
While COVID impacted the museum’s availability, Allie is looking forward to planning events for citizens and visitors to enjoy. She also wants people who didn’t know the county has a historical museum to come out and visit.
“I would like more people to know the museum’s location,” Allie mentioned. “I want to get the word out that we have interesting exhibits and are planning for new experiences. We’ve got a lot to offer.”
Allie is excited about the future exhibits and shows to come through the museum adding to what is already a place to discover the history that made Botetourt County what it is today.
Allie’s always had an affinity for history. After she received her undergrad, she wanted to do more in the historical field. She soon after found a connection to Archival Studies.
“There’s something about holding a document or a letter written one hundred years ago,” Allie explained.
When Allie isn’t in a museum, traveling is one of the things she enjoys doing. COVID restrictions have unfortunately prevented many individuals from getting out and discovering new places and things. Allie hopes to get back to traveling soon.
The Botetourt Historical Museum is open Monday thru Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
