Altec held their first Innovation Challenge competition between the three high school level schools in Botetourt County: BTEC, James River and Lord Botetourt. The competition instructed the three teams to develop a project to benefit the local community and the winner would receive a $10,000 award that would fund the project.

The Altec Innovation Challenge invited local high school students to team up and address a real-world problem with innovation that benefits their local community. Teams then got to hone their presentation skills by sharing their solution.

The Botetourt County School Board recognized the students who participated in the competition last Tuesday. A representative from Altec explained the challenge is a competition that started eight years ago in Birmingham, Ala. Each year, local high schoolers are challenged to develop ways to help the community. This is the first year Altec’s Botetourt location participated.
