Two local students have been awarded $500 each from American Legion Post 240 to assist in furthering their formal education.
Randyn Frate of Botetourt Tech received his scholarship for composing the winning historical essay. He will continue his formal education at Virginia Western and then on to Roanoke College to major in criminal Justice. His great-grandfather served in the military.
Macy Williams from James River won the Raymond A. Gabay Scholarship for her essay on military history. She’s uncertain as to what field of study she will pursue. Her mother served in the Navy.
American Legion Post 240 meets Thursday
American Legion Post 240 will conduct its monthly meeting on Thursday, May 4, at the VFW Hall at the corner of Rt. 220 and Country Club Road, Daleville. Social/supper hour will be from 6-7 p.m. The business meeting will start promptly at 7p.m.
This meeting is very important as the new board of directors will be voted into office for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.”
All dues paying members are strongly advised to attend. The post also welcomes any non-member, honorably discharged veterans to attend with the possibility of becoming active members.
