Harper had an outstanding round after qualifying as an individual in the Region 3D tournament two weeks prior. He hit all 18 greens in regulation, finishing with six birdies and 12 pars. He had a 33 on both the front and back nines.
“He started off strong,” said LB coach Todd Smith. “He just missed an eagle on number seven but finished with a birdie, then hit a long putt on number nine for a birdie.”
Through 13 holes Harper was five under and Davidov was on his heels at two under. However, Harper finished strong despite missing a four-footer on the last hole that would have given him a seventh birdie for the round.
Harper, a junior, becomes the first Cavalier to win the state championship since Clay O’Connor in 2009. Davidov is a senior who also qualified for the state as an individual.
The Abingdon team, playing on their home course, ran away with the team title with a score of 288. That was 24 strokes better than runner-up Hidden Valley at 312.
