Attic Productions Inc. brings the classic musical “Kiss Me, Kate” to its stage this summer.

A large, talented local cast of actors and musicians from the Roanoke Valley will bring this story to life with shows running over three weekends beginning Thursday, July 27.

Cole Porter and the Same and Bella Spiewak provide a play-within-a-play as a touring company rehearses and performs a musical version of Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew.”

Offstage events and relationships both mirror and complicate the on-staqe performances. Popular songs include ”Another Op’nin’, Another Show,” “So In Love,” “Wundebar” and a vaudeville version of “Brush Up Your Shakespeare” among many other familiar tunes.

Shows run Thursdays-Saturdays, July 27,28, 29, August 3,4,5, 10, 11 and 12 with curtain at 7:30 p.m. There also are 2:30 p.m. matinees each Saturday.

Original music and lyrics are by Cole Porter and the play is based on a book by the Spiewaks.

Katerina Yancey is directing, Richard Whitley is music director and choreographer is Kirsten Hamann.

Partial funding is provided by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Attic Productions is located at 7490 Roanoke Road (Route 220), Fincastle, VA.

Reservations are strongly suggested by calling  540-473-1001.

Volunteer hours at the box office are Mondays and Wednesdays 3-7 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Leave a message at other times

Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for 18 and under and groups of 10 or more.
