Attic Productions will hold auditions for the summer musical production of “The Music Man” on Saturday, May 11 at 4 p.m. and Sunday, May 12 at 6 p.m. at Attic Productions in Fincastle.
Meredith Willson’s Tony Award-winning musical comedy has been entertaining audiences since 1957. This family-friendly story follows a traveling salesman whose life as a con man is interrupted when the town librarian steals his heart.
Casting requirements for the show call for a large cast (40-50+) of men, women, boys, and girls of all ages.
Major roles include Professor Harold Hill, Marian Paroo, Marcellus Washburn, Mrs. Paroo, a barbershop quartet of councilmen, a Sweet Adeline quartet of Mrs. Shinn’s Ladies Auxiliary Committee, teens Tommy Djilas and Zaneeta Shinn, and children Winthrop Paroo, Amaryllis, and Gracie Shinn. Roles that do not require singing include Mayor Shinn and Charlie Cowell. A large ensemble of traveling salesmen, townspeople, teenagers, and kids round out the cast.
Anyone interested in midi operation, dance captains or a technical role (lights, sound, props, costumes, stage crew) should contact the director, Sally Miller, via email at millers@pobox.com.
Be prepared to sing 16-30 bars of a song at the audition, preferably in the style of the show. Cold readings from the script will also be done.
Performance dates are over three weekends: July 25-27, August 1-3, and 8-10 with show times on Thursday-Saturday evenings at 7:30, and Saturday matinees at 2:30 p.m. Rehearsals begin in late May, about three to four times per week, Monday through Friday, depending on the role.
Contact the director with any additional questions or concerns.
