Marianne Steger Austin, “Nanny,” 83, of Buchanan, passed away on November 21, 2022.
Marianne was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a kind and compassionate heart and always helped others. She married her husband of nearly 46 years in 1959 while he was in the Army stationed in her hometown of Bamberg, Germany. She loved tending to her flowers and keeping a beautiful home. She loved to travel extensively and went to Germany many times to visit her family and enjoyed beach trips for the simple beauty of the ocean. She was the backbone of her family and contributed to the upbringing of three generations of children. She often proudly stated that her greatest accomplishment in life was the success of her three children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Austin; her parents, Anna and Otto Steger; and brothers, Freddie, Georg, Walter, and Edgar Steger.
Survivors include her children David (Missy) Austin, Suzanne A. Schrader, and Steve Austin; grandchildren, Jon Schrader, Travis (Summer) Austin, Ashley (Chadd) St. Clair, and Kelsey (John) Dillon; great-grandchildren, Lannah Schrader, Miley Austin, Abbey St. Clair, and Oaklyn Dillon; brother-in- law, Larry Austin; sister-in-law Maria Steger; amazing angelic caregivers, Donna Holt, Janice Disse, and Maureen Fleming; and her special dog Bailey.
The family received friends Monday, November 28, from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by her funeral service at 2 p.m. at Botetourt Funeral Home, Buchanan, with Pastor Dave Mucha officiating.
