The Botetourt County School Board has begun the process of hiring a new superintendent by seeking public input on qualifications. Dr. Jonathan Russ recently announced his intention to retire at the end of this school year.
To facilitate community involvement, the School Board has developed a survey regarding superintendent criteria. This survey is accessible online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ BotetourtSearch25 and can also be found on the division’s website homepage. Additionally, hard copies are available at the School Board Administration Offices and each school.
The board will also hold a public hearing to gather further input at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at Central Academy Middle School, 367 Poor Farm Road, Fincastle.
“We want to make sure we include and involve as many stakeholders as possible in this process,” said School Board Chair Anna Weddle. “The Botetourt County School Board’s highest priority is selecting the next leader for the school division, and we will work tirelessly to ensure the right fit.”
The School Board has engaged the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) to assist with the superintendent search.
