Lord Botetourt scored 10 runs in the bottom of the third inning to break the game wide open and defeat Heritage in baseball Monday. The Cavs took a slaughter-rule 11-1 win in Daleville.

Noah Donaho’s grand slam was the big hit in the inning. The senior shortstop took a 1-2 pitch deep over the left field screen with two outs and the bases full for his third homer in two games. Isaac Nichols and Emory Lonker each had two hits and two RBIs for LB.

Logan Wingler picked up the win, pitching three innings and giving up three hits. Cameron Bailey and Brady Kish each pitched a scoreless inning and had two strikeouts each to close out the win.

With the victory the Cavaliers are 2-1 after a week and a day of regular season play. They opened the season with a 5-4 loss to Blacksburg. Wingler also started that one and pitched the first five innings, yielding three earned runs. Jairdan Pennix relieved and took the loss as the host Bruins walked it off with one out in the bottom of the seventh.

Donaho went 2-for-2 with a walk while Garrett Lonker, Nichols and Pennix each had a hit and Lonker had three RBIs.

In last Thursday’s home opener the Cavs beat Hidden Valley, 7-5. Kobe Hairston earned the win, going four innings and scattering seven hits. Chase Peck pitched two innings and Garrett Lonker picked up a save when he struck out the side in the top of the seventh.

Offensively, Donaho was 2-for-3 with two home runs and three runs batted in. After three games Noah is 6-for-7 at the plate with three homers. Garrett Lonker was 3-for-4 and Pennix and Nichols had two hits each.

The Cavaliers return to action next Tuesday, April 1, when Blacksburg returns the trip. Then, a day later, they play an intra-county rivalry game at James River.
